Posted on June 19, 2007

What: Road Reconstruction / Intersection Closure

When: Beginning Wednesday, June 25, 2008

Where: Platt Road-Bemis Road intersection

Why: Intersection closure / detour route

Background

Beginning on Wednesday, June 25, 2008, the Washtenaw County Road Commission will impose a ROAD CLOSURE at the PLATT ROAD-BEMIS ROAD INTERSECTION for reconstruction and widening of the existing roadway.

Traffic on Platt and Bemis Roads will be detoured through August 1, 2008. There will be posted detours for both roads while this work is performed. Platt Road will be detoured between US-12 (Michigan Avenue) and Stony Creek Road; Bemis Road will be detoured between Moon and Carpenter Roads.

Access for residents within these closure areas will be maintained. Residents will be contacted regarding activities that may temporarily limit driveway access, such as concrete curb and gutter construction or excavations.

The entire project, which includes the reconstruction of Willis Road, Platt Road, Bemis Road and widening of the US-23 southbound ramps is scheduled to be completed by September 2008. Additional traffic advisories will be issued as construction progresses through the various stages of this project.

To maintain the safety of road crews, please reduce speeds and drive cautiously through the work zone. The posted speed limit within the project limits has been reduced to 35 mph. The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department has been advised of this road work and related speed reduction. The Road Commission thanks you in advance for your patience as these necessary improvements to the county road system are completed.
